Kathy Ikerd is a native of Northern California. Her interest in art was inspired at an early age when a friend asked to exchange drawings. Raising a family while her husband served in the Navy left little time to pursue a serious career in art. After settling in Southern California, she began her formal art training at Ventura College.
Other places of study include Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, California Art Institute and workshops. She is enrolled in David Gallup's master workshop, signature member of California Art Club. Her work has often been influenced by the vivid colors of Japan where she lived while her husband was on active duty.
Poetic, meditative, bold color, and brushwork describe her paintings that range from abstract expressionism to representational post impressionist work. She considers her paintings as visual communication, with unspoken words, that people may choose to reflect upon.
